Fox Cities Money Conference offers free credit report, tips to improve score

Many people are looking for practical tips to improve their financial situation. If that sounds like you or someone you know, check out the 11th Annual Fox Cities Money Conference.

The Fox Cities Money Conference will be held Nov. 2 at Fox Valley Technical College in Grand Chute. The conference offers more than 20 separate classes for adults to choose from, including topics like “How to have More Month than Money for a Change” and “Feed Your Family Healthy Food without Going Broke.”

Many of the sessions at this year’s conference will focus on wellness. Keynote speaker Lisa Welko, the founder and president of Ellipse Fitness, will share tips on feeding your family healthy meals on a tight budget. I’ll kick off the conference with a talk titled “The Dog Ate my Homework, I’ll do it Tomorrow and other Tall Tales.” We’ll focus on overcoming obstacles that stop us from making changes in our lives.

The money conference is organized by Asset Builders, a Wisconsin nonprofit organization. Richard Entenmann, CEO of Asset Builders said, “The conference offers unbiased, high-quality education on a wide variety of personal finance topics in a fun atmosphere. There is no selling or pressure to buy financial products.”

The money conference is a great value. Advance registration is $5 for adults and $2.50 for youth (under age 18). Registration at the door is only $7 for adults and $3.50 for youth.

For the price of a burger, beverage and fries, you can start your day with a healthy continental breakfast, attend the conference, enjoy a healthy lunch and receive a free credit report. Plus, you can ask questions about your credit history and get advice on how to improve your score. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. The conference begins at 8:30 a.m.

Child care is available for children between ages 2 and 6 if you make an advanced reservation. Door prizes will be offered throughout the day.

Many organizations are donating their time and expertise to help make the conference a success, including Associated Bank, BMO Harris Bank, Capital Credit Union, Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, FISC, Fox Communities Credit Union, Fox Valley Technical College, Lakeview Credit Union, UW-Extension, Workforce Economics, Unison Credit Union, US Bank, Veritas and WHEDA.

I wanted to share with you a success story from this past weekend’s Money Conference in Appleton.  As you know I have been part of the Fox Cities Money Conference for the past 5 years.  On the day of the event I contribute by discussing with attendees their credit report and explaining the current status of their credit history and score.  This year three attendees returned from prior years all with successful, positive changes on their report.  It is very encouraging to be part of this success and notice the changes that this conference is able to make in a relatively short time.”
